Staples Bed Comes Home After 75 Years

December 2011

A Staples bed made in 1936 has recently been returned to the Staples factory in Huntingdon after 75 years of continual use.

The single bed was originally made at the factory in North West London at Staples Corner – the brand was responsible for the name of the famous location. Staples beds are now manufactured in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.

It has been donated to Staples by Val and Bob Scutt of Fen Drayton, Cambridgeshire.

The bed originally belonged to Bob’s father, James Scutt who received it as a 21st birthday present.

The bed had continual use up until August 2010 by Bob’s father who passed away in April 2011. Bob and Val inherited the bed which has most of its original features including the badging showing the Royal Warrant from George V who first awarded the accolade to the brand.

“We are delighted that Staples can give the bed a new home”, commented Bob. “My father enjoyed many comfortable night’s sleep on it and we are pleased that Staples beds continue to be made in the UK” Bob concluded.
